Capabilities
What it does
Turn the phone into a macro pad for Codex on your Mac, one verified machine, one explicit session, nothing running in the background.
- Only Macs you have verifiedMachines on your local network or your Tailscale account, on the same OpenAlly account, with the OpenLink host switched on. One at a time, by design.
- A private session over the meshControls go directly to Codex on the Mac you chose over a private mesh session, not through a relay, and not through us.
- A real pad, with layersKeycaps for send, stop, new chat, thread, modes and workflow, across layers you page through. A nav dial moves the interface; a second dial sets reasoning effort.
- Two lights that tell the truthThe LED is link health, steady green connected, flash green a command the Mac confirmed, flash amber one it could not complete, steady red the link is gone. The four-cell lightbar is the agent: idle, executing, waiting on you, done, error.
- Nothing runs in the backgroundLeave the app and the controller pauses. Commands are never queued while you are away, and you reconnect only when you are ready to control that Mac again.
- Push to talkHold Talk to dictate into Codex and release to send. Hold, not tap, and the app says so rather than silently dropping the gesture.
Walkthrough
The actual flow
Every screen below is a replica of OpenLink built from the app's own strings, step through it.
Studio · OpenLink ready
Only verified Macs on your local network or Tailscale account appear here, and OpenLink controls one at a time.
A private session over the mesh
Controls are sent directly to Codex on the selected Mac, not through a relay, and not through us.
Codex, from the phone
Keycaps across layers you page through, a nav dial that moves the interface, and a second dial for reasoning effort. Talk needs a hold, not a tap.
Two indicators, and what they mean
Connected · session to your Mac is alive.
Command succeeded · the Mac confirmed it.
Command failed · the Mac did not complete it.
Codex is running a reply or tool.
Needs input · approval, question, or login.
The LED is link health; the four-cell lightbar is what the agent is doing.
Controller paused
01Verified machines only · not anything that answers
Step 1 of 5: Choose a Mac. Verified machines only · not anything that answers
Where it lives
Opens as its own screen in the app. Your AI can drive it too, so you can either tap through it yourself or just ask.
What it needs
Nothing special. It runs anywhere OpenAlly does.
