- Turn on AI replies when you are ready. Connecting a number does not turn AI on.
Before you start
You need permission to manage the business portfolio, access to the phone number, and a payment method with Meta when required. Meta checks registration and eligibility.
Meta decides which accounts and numbers are eligible, approves your templates and sets messaging limits. Add a payment method in Meta: a connected number can still need one before it sends.
What your agent can send
Text, buttons, lists, product cards, forms, media and approved templates, inside the limits Meta sets.
Text
Up to 4,096 characters, with WhatsApp formatting.
Reply buttons
Up to 3 buttons, 20 characters each.
Lists
Up to 10 choices, 24 characters each.
Website button
One button that opens an https link.
Product cards
Items from the catalog you linked in Meta.
Forms
A WhatsApp form you published in your Meta account. Forms that load data from your own server are not supported.
Media
Photos, video, audio and documents already in the conversation. When you reply yourself, you can attach a JPEG or PNG up to 5 MB, or a supported document, audio or video file up to 16 MB.
Approved templates
The exact approved version, for messages outside the reply window.
Meta's limits: reply buttons and lists.
What it reads
A customer's image or PDF goes to the model with their message, text files are read, and audio is transcribed on your device.
Selling and bookings
Orders, payment links and bookings use the business tools you grant the agent, and only with your Sell permission. Quotes need only read access to that inventory.
Meta's rules and a few of our own, checked before every send
Your agent works inside Meta's messaging rules, the limits you set and a few safeguards of ours. The difference is that it never forgets one.

24-hour reply window
Only a customer's message opens it. Outside it, only an approved template goes out, checked again right before sending.
Consent for marketing
A marketing message needs the customer's recorded consent.
STOP and START
STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE opts a customer out and START opts them back in. Checked before every send.
You approve billable messages
A billable AI message waits for your approval of that exact message and its estimated Meta charge. Or set a budget for named templates, purposes and conversations, in one currency, up to a total you choose, for up to 90 days.
Hand-offs
The agent hands a conversation to you when it should not settle it alone. After three failed attempts, it moves to you automatically.
Customer-level access
People messaging your number get customer-level access: no owner controls, only the business tools you grant.
No blind retries
A send with an uncertain outcome is never repeated. The app settles its status first.
WhatsApp Business app replies
When you also use the WhatsApp Business app, a reply you send from it hands that conversation to you.
Meta's rules in full: the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy
Your agent runs on your device
Meta carries the messages. A dedicated OpenAlly delivery service holds them until your device collects them and passes your approved replies back to Meta. Your agent runs on the phone or Mac you choose.
- Your customer Messages your number
- Meta Delivers it through the Cloud API
- OpenAlly delivery service Checks, encrypts, holds
- Your designated device Runs the agent
- Your model On device, your provider or OpenAlly cloud AI
The delivery service
Checks Meta's signature on every event. Keeps messages encrypted and deletes them once your device has them, or after seven days at most. Passes your approved replies back to Meta and keeps the approval, budget and consent records every send is checked against. It never runs your agent.
Your designated device
Runs the agent and keeps the history. While OpenAlly is running on it, it checks for new messages about every 30 seconds. Background running varies by platform, so keep it online with OpenAlly running for timely replies.
Your model
A model on your device, your own AI provider, or OpenAlly cloud AI. The provider you pick receives the context it needs to write the reply.

Ask your own AI
Ask your AI to connect a business or check your inboxes. It reads your setup status and account health, then opens a private console in the chat where you act in the app's own forms. It never fills those in for you.

Included with every Premium plan
Three costs, kept apart: your OpenAlly plan, Meta's message charges, and your model.
OpenAlly
WhatsApp Business is included with every Premium plan: Plus, Pro, Ultra and Max. OpenAlly adds no per-message fee.
Meta
Meta bills your business directly for message charges, by message type and country. The app shows the estimated Meta charge before you approve a billable message, and Meta's invoice is final. A price the app cannot verify is never shown as free.
Your model
Model usage is separate: your own AI provider bills you, or OpenAlly cloud AI uses your plan's credits.

If Premium ends
Your history and account controls remain available; sending and AI are paused. You can still read, export, take over and disconnect.
Which WhatsApp is which
OpenAlly touches WhatsApp in three places. They share a name and nothing else.
| Question | WhatsApp Business | WhatsApp channel (QR code) | OpenAlly Miro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whose number | Your business number | Your personal account | OpenAlly's own number |
| Connects by | Meta's signup | Scanning a QR code | Nothing to connect |
| Who it is for | Your customers | Your own chats | Help with OpenAlly |
| Plan | Premium; Meta bills messages | No plan needed | Not applicable |
| Access | Through Meta's Cloud API | Unofficial access; it can lead to account limits or a ban | Message it on WhatsApp; it never messages first |
The privacy policy covers WhatsApp Business and messaging channels in separate sections.
The third column
OpenAlly Miro is a number you can message
OpenAlly Miro is OpenAlly's own WhatsApp number, answered by OpenAlly's own AI agent. Ask it what WhatsApp Business does and does not do, get help connecting your number, or raise a support ticket a person reads. It answers about OpenAlly and says so plainly when a question is about something else.
Messaging this number connects nothing. It is not the business number you connect through Meta's signup, and it is not the personal account the WhatsApp channel links by QR code. It is us, on WhatsApp, and it never messages you first.
Message OpenAlly Miro
Message OpenAlly MiroIt opens WhatsApp with a first message written and unsent. You press send — the agent never messages first.
Or scan this with your phone It opens the same conversation. The number is +91 87792 22606 — save it, or open the chat on this computer.

WhatsApp Business questions
Is WhatsApp Business in OpenAlly included with Premium?
Yes. WhatsApp Business in OpenAlly is included with every Premium plan: Plus, Pro, Ultra and Max. OpenAlly adds no per-message fee. Meta's message charges are separate: Meta bills your business for them directly.
Who pays for the messages?
Meta bills your business directly for message charges, by message type and country, through the payment method in your Meta account. Before a billable AI message goes out, OpenAlly shows its estimated Meta charge for you to approve, unless an automation budget you set already covers it, and Meta's invoice is final. Model usage is separate: your own AI provider bills you, or OpenAlly cloud AI uses your plan's credits.
Do I need a new number?
No. Choose New business number to create or select a business portfolio, WhatsApp account and number through Meta. Choose Existing Cloud API account to connect numbers you already manage, or Use with the Business App to keep using the WhatsApp Business app if Meta finds your account eligible.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app?
Yes, for accounts Meta finds eligible. Choose Use with the Business App: you keep using the WhatsApp Business app and review available history and consent before importing. Imported messages never start an AI reply, and a reply you send from the WhatsApp Business app hands that conversation to you. Other accounts may need to migrate first.
Does the AI reply as soon as I connect?
No. Connecting a number does not turn AI on. Assign an agent to the inbox, review its access, send a test message from another phone, then turn on AI replies when you are ready.
Can I step in?
Yes. Tap Take over on any conversation and reply yourself; AI replies pause for that conversation until you tap Return to AI. The agent also hands a conversation to you when it should not settle it alone, and after three failed attempts it moves to you automatically.
Where does my agent run, and where are messages kept?
Your agent runs on the phone or Mac you designate, and that device keeps the inbox history. Meta delivers messages to a dedicated OpenAlly delivery service, which checks Meta's signature, keeps each message encrypted and deletes it once your device has it, or after seven days at most, and passes your approved replies back to Meta. That service never runs your agent. The privacy policy at openally.ai/privacy has the details.
How quickly are messages answered?
Your designated device checks for new messages about every 30 seconds while OpenAlly is running on it, and your agent answers from there. Background running varies by platform, so keep that device online with OpenAlly running for timely replies. While it is offline, new messages wait, encrypted, in the delivery service for up to seven days.
What happens if Premium ends?
Your history and account controls remain available: you can still read conversations, export them, take over and disconnect. Sending and AI replies pause until you renew.
Is this the same as connecting WhatsApp by QR code?
No. WhatsApp Business connects your business number through Meta's signup and is included with Premium. The WhatsApp channel links your personal account by scanning a QR code; that is unofficial access, and it can lead to account limits or a ban. OpenAlly Miro is OpenAlly's own WhatsApp number for help with OpenAlly, and it never messages first.
Can the agent send promotions?
Only within Meta's rules. You create templates and Meta approves them in your Meta account; the agent sends the exact approved version, and a marketing message only to a customer with recorded consent. STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE opts a customer out and START opts them back in, checked before every send. OpenAlly does not run bulk campaigns.
Connect your number, then decide how much your agent handles.
Start with approvals on every billable message and take over whenever you like. Loosen the reins when you trust the agent, not before.
You stay responsible for customer permissions, honoring opt-outs and giving customers access to human help, under WhatsApp's business policies and Meta's terms.
WhatsApp and Meta names belong to their respective owners.
